Even without their best game, the Bills still looked like the best team in the NFL in Week 8. The Eagles keep winning, the Lions keep losing, Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers continue to lose relevance, and we now live in a football world where the Seahawks and Falcons are first-place teams.
So what can we look forward to as the NFL closes the book on the first half of the regular season?
Buffalo Bills (-13) at New York Jets
Josh Allen threw a pair of interceptions, and the Bills scored just three points in the second half against the Packers, and still, it never looked like they broke a sweat. Football isn’t as easy as they make it look, except perhaps when you are playing Zach Wilson and the Jets.
New York has a roster that could challenge the Bills, but the quarterback is such a mess right now that a 13-point spread doesn’t seem that big. Give the points and take the Bills to continue to dominate their NFL division.
Los Angeles Chargers at Atlanta Falcons (+3)
Each year we try to convince ourselves that the great roster of the Chargers is finally going to result in a championship-caliber NFL team. It never seems to happen, and it’s failing again this year, with the Chargers still unable to stop the run, which sunk them against the Seahawks.
Now they get the Falcons, another team that loves to run the football. Atlanta is at home, they average a league-best 158 yards rushing per game, and for that reason, you should take the Falcons and the points.
Minnesota Vikings (-3.5) at Washington Commanders
The Vikings can be frustrating, but they can also be dynamic. Mostly because Justin Jefferson is turning into the best wide receiver in the NFL.
His string of 100-yard games came to an end on Sunday against the Cardinals – he settled for 98. And with Jefferson and Dalvin Cook, who went over 100 yards against Arizona, this offense can control a game.
Taylor Heinicke is limited, and the Vikings will limit him in Washington, winning the game by at least four points.
Los Angeles Rams (+3) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Who is the bigger disappointment? The defending NFL Super Bowl champions or the seven-time Super Bowl champion?
The Rams are falling out of the NFC West race, having now been swept by the 49ers. Tom Brady and the Bucs are trailing the Falcons and tied with the Saints in the NFC South. Who manages to save their NFL season this week?
Too many injuries for the Bucs swings the pendulum to the Rams. Take L.A. and the points.
