The 2025 PGA Championship begins Thursday, May 15, at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is the second major of the season and brings back one of the most familiar courses on the PGA Tour schedule. Quail Hollow last hosted the PGA in 2017, where Justin Thomas won the event, and it is also the regular home of the Wells Fargo Championship.
Rory McIlroy, who just completed his career grand slam with a win at the Masters, and Scottie Scheffler, who has been in strong form all season, enter as the betting favorites. Several others, including Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Åberg, and Collin Morikawa, are close behind. WagerHome makes it easy to start taking action on events like this with their PPH platform. FAVORITES Preview – McIlroy, Scheffler Lead the Field
Scottie Scheffler is listed at +450 to win. He won earlier this season at the CJ Cup and skipped last week’s Truist Championship to rest and prep for this major. Scheffler ranks among the best on tour in strokes gained off the tee and putting.
Rory McIlroy, at +475, is coming off his green jacket win at Augusta and looks to add another PGA Championship to his total. He has won four times at Quail Hollow in the past and is considered the most experienced player on this course.
Xander Schauffele (+1900) returns as the defending champion and has finished top 20 in five straight majors. He’s been consistent all season and knows how to stay in contention. Ludvig Åberg (+1900) is another name to watch, finishing inside the top 10 in multiple events this season, including a top showing at the Masters.
Collin Morikawa (+2100) has eight runner-up finishes and one win in the last four seasons. While his stats are solid, especially in strokes gained, he’s been faded by some experts due to his lack of closing wins recently. Jon Rahm (+2000) is also in the mix but has been inconsistent in majors the past year.
SLEEPERS Preview – Mid-Range and Longshot Options
Tommy Fleetwood sits at 45-1 and has been strong at Quail Hollow. He’s finished T14 or better in his last three appearances and had a top-five finish at the Truist. If his putting shows up, he can stay in the mix through Sunday.
Jason Day is listed at 70-1 and is a past winner at this course, taking the Wells Fargo in 2018. He had a T4 finish here last year and finished T8 at this year’s Masters. Day plays well at PGA setups and has the experience edge.
Sungjae Im (+80-1) has a T8 and T4 in his last two Quail Hollow starts. He is known for high-ceiling performances, especially on courses where he’s found past success. Im also finished T5 at the Masters earlier this year.
Max Homa is a two-time Wells Fargo winner and sits at 150-1. One of those wins came at Quail Hollow in 2019. He also finished T8 here in each of the last two years and could regain form with a return to a favorite track.
Andrew Novak (180-1) is the only name in this sleeper group without strong Quail Hollow history, but he’s been hot. He was runner-up at the RBC Heritage and T3 at the Texas Open recently. He’s never made a cut in a major, but the form is solid.
Jordan Spieth (50-1) is trying to complete his career grand slam. He finished top 15 at the Masters, showing signs of form. Though he’s struggled in past PGA events, his odds and upside make him worth a look.
Other names to watch include Brooks Koepka (44-1), a past major winner with a T2 at last year’s PGA, and Viktor Hovland (50-1), who had a strong showing at Quail Hollow in team events. Patrick Cantlay (44-1), Hideki Matsuyama (48-1), and Shane Lowry (65-1) round out a competitive mid-tier with major experience.
PPH Betting Prediction
Rory McIlroy is in great form and has more success at Quail Hollow than anyone in the field. He should be in contention from the start. Scottie Scheffler is another strong pick with a game that fits the course, especially his driver and putting.
For value, Tommy Fleetwood, Jason Day, and Sungjae Im all have good history here and recent form. Jordan Spieth could make noise in his quest for the career slam. Use this major to start your own PPH book with WagerHome and offer golf odds, matchups, and props. Learn more at WagerHome.com.
